I took my 351m a part some time ago, Had all my bolts in order so I wouldnt have to try to remember where they go. My dog got in the garage and knocked them down.
So my question is, on the main cap bolts there is one of them that has a stud on the end, can anyone please tell me which cap it goes on and what side.
One more dumb question. I have torqued my rod caps down and my motor will not rotate. There is one cap i can loosen and then it will rotate. One specific cap. not just any cap but this certain one. What the hell could cause this
Crank was turned .20 bearings are right size. I plastic gauged them and the oil clearance is good. Its not the rod because i tried the cap on another rod, same thing with the same cap. all was cleaned by a machine shop. The crank is not the same crank I had. I bought a new one.
did you apply assembly lube before you stuck the caps on after they were checked for clearance? i always have someone rotate the crank while i torque the caps down. makes it alot easier that way. just my .02.
My dad, who it seemed could fix anything, had some peculiar gaps in his knowledge or thinking, for lack of better terms, I guess. We had in the "fleet" a 1954 Ford NAA tractor. He decided it needed bearings, and that it must be worn enough to need the .010 size. Bolted it up, no start. We drug it around the yard with the Allis-Chalmers trying to break it loose. Lucky for the tractor, it never did break loose, and he went back and got standard bearings, which lasted another 20 or so years.....
So don't feel bad--after all, with all the confusion, you couldn't remember if that cap was 5 or 6....etc.
