so far so good

yup so far everything is holding up great! i need to take more pics of the re-assembled interior for y'all...i'll try to do that this weekend...

the true test of the dash will be this summer of course...with the winter rainy weather, the dash hasnt had to withstand as much of the beating it'll get in the summer...

tach swap

if i find an instrument cluster with the tach from another model, do i need to pull the circuit board out too since I have the 80? My poor 80 seems like it has a bunch of stuff that only happened that one year.

No I mean the fold able visors you place up in your window when you park. They are like sun glasses for your windshield.

If it's from an 81-86,you should try and find a circuit paper from a truck built before July 1980.However,I have a tach and Printed circuit from an 82 in my truck, and the only difference I have is in the Turn signal indicators being mixed up with the brake indicator light, which is easily fixed by popping out those little plastic strips on the back of the instrument bezel(The strips that have the arrows and say brake and high beam) and swapping them around, and gluing them back down. That's how I fixed it.The tach will be fine though, they swap out 80-86.

Your Welcome. It's in the wiring and circuit board.I've pulled both clocks apart, and it's a completely different ballpark in each. The 80-82 Clock looks to have alot more components than the 83-86 clock. If you knew alot about electronics you could probably make it work.

Good choice, the connectors in the newer radios are completely different, and i'm not sure if the wiring is even the same as our trucks. Also, those radios mount completely different than ours, you'd have to find a way to convert it so it mounts in your truck with the 4 screws.

There were 2 or 3 different Dome/Map lights offered. What did you pull it out of
?The ones from Supercabs,Broncos, and CrewCabs differ from the single cab ones.

Just about everyone who has a truck with the sliders has had a problem with them, and most have swapped over to the pull type locks.

If it's original, nab it.They're hard to find these days.

Well, I went back today for a quickie ahead of tomorrow's predicted rain. Pulled a fairly clean looking 2 barrel out of an 83. Another one was butchered up and another had a seized throttle body shaft. I might go back for that one and let it soak for a few years as it was on an 80.

And I forgot to grab the storage box (in a rush) but spied a pair of those map pockets that I'm going back for.

A few of the little "stocking stuffers" tho' - a 4 set of side mounted cleats, a handful of the wire looms that slip over the V/C bolts, a lighter, etc.

Fordzilla80 - the dome/map lite was out of the 84 F150XL with the short extended cab. It was the only one that even had a lens let alone an uncracked lens so I grabbed it.

I was pretty surprised to find the basic square dome for my F100 Custom with a nice clean lens on it.

And today, I noticed a pair of half-decent door panels with the slider locks. Pass side was even still assembled and intact. I think they were of the chrome-trim variety.

I also noticed a pair of those 3-bolt side mirrors that I read about in another thread and wonder if I should grab those too!

Rain doesn't ever scare me away,i've gone to Junkyards before in the rain, even when it's pouring.I won't go during thunderstorms though. If I were you,I'd go get that box as soon as possible, cause if someone else gets it later, you'll regret it.Trust me.

If it was a Supercab, than it's not quite the right one,but they still work. The map lights on the Supercab don't point straight down like the standard cab ones do,they point kinda forward since they're mounted farther back on the roof.It doesn't really matter, cause i'm running a Supercab dome/map in my truck.Works just fine.

I got lucky and found a clean one too.I'll never use that style in my truck, but the newer Rangers used that same dome light,so ya never know.My old 2000 Ranger had the same exact dome light from factory as my F100.

The lens cover just snaps into place. Unfortunately, the plastic is so old, they usually snap off the tabs that hold them in place, so they will not go back on, or stay in place.
Use EXTREME caution when removing the lens. Even then, it can break.
