Ok.... stupid question...
My 390... what does it equal out to?
Like a 302 is a 5.0 liter, 351 is a 5.8 liter
What exactly would a 390 be?
Im having some stickers made by a friend that works for a sign company, and I want to know what it equals
Here's an even easier way that doesn't require you to remember constants. You know that a 302 cid is the same as 5.0 liter. Use those numbers as a ratio - that is 5.0/302. Do the same for the 390 except of course you don't know the liters so it would be X/390 Of course X represents the number of liters we're looking for. These two ratios will always be equal so you can set up an equation like this: 5/302 = X/390 Then solve this algebraic expression for X. First cross multiply - that is 5 x 390 = 1950 and 302 x X = 302X So we're left with the expression 302X=1950 Then to solve this we divide both sides of the expression by 302 which leaves X alone and gives the result X = 6.457 which you could just round up to 6.5 Okay - my head hurts now... I quit.
I tried the formula below (which is great, Thanks) using 60.4 and 60.5 and was a little closer to the numbers but off on some of them. After a little searching, several sites said to use 61.0237 which makes a 5.0 a little more than a 302.
I'm closer to understand this, but I hate math anyway.
Thanks again jethro1 for posting this information.

1 liter equals approximately 60 cubic inches.
To convert from liters to cubic inches, multiply the liters by 60.
6.5 liter >> 6.5 X 60 = 390 cu. in.
7.1 liter >> 7.1 X 60 = 426 cu. in. ( I said, approximately)
To convert cubic inches to liters, divide cubic inches by 60.
This may reveal some cross-brand interests on my part. but I always remember Harley 1000 cc (1 liter) Sportsters were 61 cu. in., and the 'big twin' 1200 cc motor was a 74 incher (little less, but rounded up). Remember this conversion from drawing 'choppers' in school when I should have been listening to the math teacher, but I guess learning is learning and these numbers have been in my head from long before Harley and Henry combined forces on 5.8/351 powered dream trucks.
Be careful there 62Uni... talk of anything other than the Blue Oval on here can be hazardous - I committed that mortal sin a few months ago and just this week got back on solid food... The doctors say one day I might even be able to walk again... Yes I'm exaggerating but not by much! lol
Figured I might skate by with the H-D reference, blue oval being the 'official' truck of Srugis and all that. I'm just an old hippy recycling an old truck, with all the terrible conflics raging around the globe, brand loyalty is low on my priorities, to tell the truth. As it is with dealers and manufacturers of all things automotive. OEM 's sell to any auto producer that will have them, auto dealers merge and cross aquire so often that you can by brand X and your personal favorite usually from the same mega-corp dealer network. Mine is just a 40 year old hobby truck to release tension and reduce stress, not to fight about. However, I do have my eye on a 302, er 5 liter efi/five speed combo for my humble little unibody, time will tell. Good day to you and yours.
