On the back of my Bronco the latch that the spare tire loop locks onto. there is an "anti rattle device" Its really a rubber bumper. I need a new one and Ford doesn't sell without you buying the whole latch. and I can't find it in any part store. THe rattle noise is driving me crazy. Does anyone know where I can get one or something to replace it. I'm pretty sure I will have to find it in a junk yard but its freezing out there.
Which style of carrier do you have? The early style with the long square tube release bar, or the later style with the door-type catch operated by a short handle?
I am not ignoring your question, but I have no real solution. I went out and looked at mine today to see if I could come up with some ideas, but nothing strikes me as a good solution that works and looks decent.
I had consodered cutting a piece of old tire and then riveting it into a small round piece and then bolting it on, but it would look hokey.
My other idea would be to find some heavy, and I mean heavy rubber tubing, say from a hydraulic line, and cutting a piece from there. Mounting it would be a problem here though......
Let me know what you find out. Where as mine does not squeek now, it may someday...................
I'm not as familiar with that style as the earlier one. (Go figure... ) I have a whole spare carrier like that, but I haven't really looked at it. If you own a Dremel, you might be able to make a replacement rubber bumper by carving it out of a larger chunk, but it would probably break quickly.
