I have an 86 Ford F150 with 5.0L in it. I just recently purchased, and I'm in the process of getting it running smoothly.
I've Replaced
Distributor Cap
Rotor
Coil
TFI Module
Spark Plug wires
Sparkplugs
In tank Fuel Pump and sending unit
I also set the timing.
After a test run it ran great..no problems. The next day ran fine to work. After setting for a few minutes engine off I headed out to an appointment and it started backfiring really bad and sounding like it was missing. Once I got moving if I keep the RPMs up it would run okie but if I slowed down it would continue to Backfire. If this was a carbureted engine, it seems to me like the advance is getting stuck, but I don't know with this one. Any pointers would be helpful.
Thanks
Brad
If it's missing I'd try to figure out which cyl or cyl's are dead and then figure out why from there. One possibility that comes to mind is the dist didnt get tightened down right and moved or the chain jumped.
Also get good at talking to the computer and pulling the codes. Sometimes the codes are very helpful and sometimes not, but it's always good to see what the computer is seeing.
Here's a site with lots of info on your computer system. Ford Fuel Injection
Thanks, I know this is gonna sound weird coming from a guy that is 31...but the computer stuff on trucks is not my strong suit... But I'll learn. Thanks for the input I'll see if I can pull some codes tomorrow and see it that helps..
