90 f250 351w. i have had a draw on the battery enough to the next day a brand new battery is drained. well i went and pulled ALL fuses and still draw. then i went to the solonoid, pulled wires and it dropped off, tracked the wires and they go to the alt... now on my volt meter i had it set to 20k is what the setting said, it was pulling 2.7ish range, unplug the top harness on the alt and it drops to 0, now my guess would be a fried voltage regulator, any opinions are welcome tho
Battery draws through the alternator are actually pretty common. I guess you could just replace the regulator, but I don't know that you can buy it separately. Otherwise just replace the alternator.
actually i went onto autozone's (i know how everyone hates autozone lol) website and its the 'internal' voltage regulator that bolts onto the back of the alt and they can order one for 26 dollars, beats 115 for a new alt even tho the alt itself is still good
I blew the voltage regulator by trying to start my truck with a low battery. I bought just the regulator and replaced it on my alternator. My brushes were excellent. Anyway, it was an easy job to do. Just remember to have a fully charged battery before trying to start. Also attach battery cables positive first then negative last or you may have a battery light plague you. Also after replacing my regulator, my battery drain problem disappeared.
