Hopefully someone here can give me some insight on this. I have a 95 aerostar awd extended, with a conversion kit. It has about 140k miles on it, and I have had very little trouble with it except this. On the interstate, at about 70 mph, the drivetrain starts to vibrate, at 75, it gets pretty bad. Have put a new set of tires on it, which didn't help. It doesn't pull or wander, so I am thinking that the alignment is good. What could be causing this?
In order of possibility, your vibration could be from: a.) worn universal joints b.) worn pinion bearing c.) loose pinion nut d.) worn differential gears e.) bad axle bearing(s).
Not sure what you refer to by "conversion kit" but if this envolves a suspension lift or driveline geometry change, the altered angles along the driveline significantly affect both rate of wear and tend to magnify any exisiting wear characteristics.
