Sounds like pretty common symptoms of a failed fuel pump. Eventually it will get to a point where even after sitting it won't restart. You could confirm a lack of fuel pressure is the issue with a fuel pressure gauge and a multimeter/test light if so inclined. Often a fuel pump that is starting to fail will gradually get louder outside the vehicle. Have you noticed recently that when the vehicle is running there is a rather noticeable whine from the middle or rear of the vehicle?
When you turn the key to the ON positon, you should hear the fuel pump prime for about 2 seconds. If you don't hear that, then the pump is not engaging. Start by checking the fuel pump relay.
