ok so my 2003 f250 auto locking hubs have went out again and I was thinking about warn hubs but they are pricey . does anyone know where to get a deal on these or is there another hub you recommend?
I just did the upgrade to warn hubs - Warn 38826 Premium Manual Hub Kit for my 2003, paid $240 total from amazon.com (taxes included). I might be able to get them cheaper or locally, but I got the energy suspension sway bar bushings and the OTC ball joint press at the same time...so it was just plain easy.
The install was super easy and I think I'll really like these compared to the stock auto hubs that gave me lots of trouble. I went with warn b/c I've used them in my jeep and they've been flawless.
Plus, I could not find a new set of Ford Auto hubs for anywhere close to $240 for both sides...maybe per side! And sorry, no clue what mile markers run and no experience there.
I replaced them on our truck a couple months ago. Kept them stock and paid 450 a side installed. Warn were going to cost 425, so I thought for the few bucks more.....I'd keep it stock
He lives in Ontario... everything is more expensive than here in the US.
That's understandable, but it seems strange that the prices, while high, are so close to each other. From what I understand, the factory auto/manuals are exponetially more expensive than premium quality manuals. You'd think that if the Warns w/install is $425, then the factory one would be $800ish.
Then again, I don't live in Canada, so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.
If I remember correctly, the Ford dealership was going to charge me $1500 installed. We have a guy that has a small shop that got me the parts for a lot less(pretty much his cost) and I think about $40 to install both. These prices are Canadian, which if changed to US dollars would be a little less also
Parts are a lot more expensive here in Canada, but it's GREAT to have a small town garage that doesn't mind to help out once in a while.
The auto hubs do have a manual lock position, why not just use that at no cost? Then the ESOF just switches the transfer case. I lock my hubs manually if I think I'll need to engage 4X4 and try to exercise the auto hubs every couple weeks to keep them operational. It just seems like an expensive fix when the stock parts will do the same job.
I'm up in Canada too, but from KY and I'm lucky enough to live close to the border so I just ship everything up to my Sumas WA address.
Yes, almost everything is more expensive up here, to the point that I don't even bother checking around for auto parts anymore, just go south or order from amazon. And in case no one has been up here yet...just wait to you see the cost of beer - your DIY auto jobs cost a hell of a lot more - $45 for 24 beer!
But I didn't realize they would charge so much for hubs.
And sure, keep the stock ones working...if they're currently working. But mine were shot, the outside was busted and they gave me nothing but trouble. Warn manuals were just the right choice at the right price.
I'm new on here and everything I've read has been of high quality. But I do have one question on the Warn Hubs.... Do you have to plug any vaccum lines when you replace the stock hubs? I've been told you do.... just didn't know. I've had trouble w/ my stock locking hubs and just turned it to manual and let it bump, is that a problems? Thansk for any info you can give me.
my stock hubs which haven't worked right in a long time meaning they weren't reliable locking or unlocking ended up being locked up for a long time. the warn hubs dont use a vacume line just manual turning locking hubs. Its 930 here in california and no longer sober hows about a beer?
