Cruise Control ?'s
A little history. The cruise control never worked in this truck.
Do you need to have an operational speedometer in order to have a functioning cruise control?
When I first got the truck, the speedometer worked but I unhooked it because after a while it starting clicking and clanging. Finally the peg would spin around with each rotation of the internal gears. So I unhooked it from the column, the cable is still turning with no noise, so that tells me that it;s the speedometer it's self that was going bad.
Next, when I take the pad off of the steering wheel that houses the cruise control switch and horn switch, there's a wire hanging there with a funny looking clip on it. When I first noticed it, I shoved it into one of the bolt holes on the steering shaft grounding this wire out. The horn worked after that, but now even with that wire being grounded I have no horn either.
That's all I know about it right now. As far as I know, there's no power going up to the switches in the steering wheel pad. I have taken the steering wheel on and off, about 5 times since then. An other problem maybe that I don't have the steering wheel on all the way. Those little prongs on the blinker switch may not be touching the metal part of the steering wheel.
This isn't something that I'm going to mess around with today, but it's been bugging me for a while now. It would be nice to have cruise in it if it's not that big of a deal to get it going. Thanks for all of your comments and advise. If I can't get the cruise going, I'm going to hook up a locking throttle cable to the cruise cable. Then I can throw out my high idle stick that I stole from the tree 3 months ago.
Then all I have to do is get some new parking brake cable's because that stick also doubles for a parking brake.
