Any one tried it? I ordered the rebuild kit and I must admit...im a little intimidated/hesitant. I read the instructions, but it appears to be one of those things you have to figure out as you go. Ill yank the motor and trany in a new york minute, installed my own lift, but something about messing with the stearing has me phyced a little. Any suggestions or advice?
Well, if it was mine to deal with, I'd carefully remove the unit. Drain the fluid. Find a nice strong plastic bag to put it in. Box it up. Ship it to Redhead Steering as a core. Ask them to send you one of their reman's. But that's me. I have never done this for the very reasons you are talking about. I can tell you that sector shaft adjustment is critical. Too far out of whack in either direction will cause the gears to chew themselves up.
AMEN!!! Better yet, install the rebuild and put the core in their box. Red Head gets a shipping discount and includes a return label. When done, just drop the core off at any shipping store.
Well against all of your great advice...and mostly becuase I had the kit there and knew either way I would be removing the old box...I went ahead and rebuilt the thing. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. And I got it back in and it steers like a brand new machine. Anyone ever need any help with one let me know!
