Well that sucks, and it sounds like you got scammed when you bought it because I know that when a truck has been chipped they mark it down quite a bit from stock.
Also keep in mind thet reliability isn't an issue if you don't push to hard for power. On these trucks you can pull out up to about 400 to 500 hp before you start to see reliability issues. So a simple chip with simple settings should work well for you and give you better fuel economy.
Gave up and took it to the dealership. I've only had this truck for a few months so I'm still getting to know it. When I purchased the truck I specifically asked if it had been tuned or if it had a chip-they said "no".
he dealer found a chip and said that it was malfunctioning and causing the no start issue. Took the chip out and they had to re-flash the stock computer. Had a few other things done and the truck runs fine now. Although seems like it has less power as expected. Right now I'm more interested in reliability than power.
In case anyone is interested it was a Hypertech. Seemed pretty old as some of the decals/stickers seemed very faded and worn.
At least they didn't try to sell you a new PCM. What were the other things that were done?
We have to start not only asking if a truck is chipped but also a little instruction on where to look to make sure.

I have a 1997 ford f-250 with a 7.3 l powerstroke engine. It died one day and would not start.I left it there came back the next day and it finaly started after a while.I drove it a couple of days and it died again. I changed the fuel filter and the cps it still wont start.i read on here that the rpm would move if the cps was good. Mine is not moving. Is it possable that I got a bad cps or is there another possable problem?

Welcome to FTE. On a 97 truck, the tach should come up to 200 rpms or more after a few seconds of cranking.
Where did you get the CPS from? We've seen several stories about the aftermarket ones being bad out of the box.
