hey jay I just look at the pics of the front cover.. sorry but the cover is trash. you are going to need a front cover kit.
I didnt see were you put the pictures of the pump gears so the damage can be seen as to what went between the gears. ill check back when I get off of work.
Ya im going to get those on today thanks for the photobucket tip . From the looks of the dents in this gears it had to be something fairly good sized and tough to do that. I think i will work on getting the pan off today if time allows just to see what i can see.
Thanks again to everyone for all the great advice .
ok I think i finally got it i think ! Go back to photo bucket and look for the pic labeled lpop10 click on it once and it should get bigger hopefully big enough. If not maybe i could email them to you.
ut look like the marks are somewhat long and stright with no cuverature to them about 1/16" wide and mabe 1/16" long to 1/4 in long. this would indacate a possible neddle bearing from a lifter comming apart.
is this discription accurate? or are the marks curved?
most likly will need to remove heads and replace lifters. will need to remove oil pan both upper and lower, clean pickup screen, replace oil cooler as well. if you caught it early the lifter bores are most likly still good so the block and crank should be ok, look at the cam when you find out what lifter failed as long as that is good you will be alright.
other option is shortblock. I would suggest that if you have a good dealer near you stop by with the pump gears and ask to speak to a tech that can see them in person and varifiy my thoughts but I dont think Im wrong, I would be for more certin if I had parts in my hand.
I did have a ford tech look at it and he just said that something went through it and gave me an istimate to replace the front cover and lpop for 4000.00 bucks sounds kind high to me . I can do the work myself just wanted to try to figure out what went through it .
Not saying its not worth it to take it to an experienced tech just cant afford it. Guys like that are worth there weight in gold. (Like you cheezit) Thanks agian for all your help.
odds are the metal would be in the oil pan or the oil cooler. but the issue you have is what has gone threw it. if what I speculate baised on the pics you will be pulling heads off and replacing lifters.
I know we dont work cheep either. but Us poor techs are lucky to see a 1/3 of just the labor.
but if all he was going to do was the front cover and low side pump that a big rip.
