Radiator/Fan Shroud

I went up north to a junk yard that has a lot of these old trucks looking for some parts, a lot of them I found. Except for the radiator/fan shroud. The man there says my truck did not come with one. Is this the real answer?

don't want to jack this thread, but does anyone have a pattern for a shroud? I'm planning to rivet one together out of sheet metal.

I read an article in a street rod magazine many years ago about making your own fan shroud. They taped one together from cardboard. Once they got the fit right they took it off, sprayed paint on it (to seal the cardboard), and then srayed it with a mold release. Then they layed up the true shroud out of fiberglass mat over the cardboard form. This of course was from the days before electric fans, and 10's of thousands of dollars to build a street rod.

wouldn't a shroud off another size engine work? Just get one of off a 302 radiator.

What he told me was I would have to change the radiator too, I guess it has the extra flange to mount the shroud to. My Radiator is very narrow, only about 18 inches wide.

I have the same issue where my shroud is long gone. I don't have a cooling issue, so I am not overly excited about it, but I would like to put one on. On the DC site for the 300 I6, it says, coming soon. They are not that easy to come across in the bone yards, or else I would have one. I am sure I will find one sooner or later.

What is the "DC Site"
Is the paint color on your firewall a stock color? Could not help but notice it is very similar to mine, if it is stock do you know the color code and name?

Since your truck is a 1979 w/a 300 I-6 > >

D7TZ8146C .. Fan Shroud / Obsolete / No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

Original applications: 1977/79 F100/350 300 I-6 with optional at additional cost: Xtra Cooling or factory installed Integral A/C.

This is the only fan shroud listed for 1973/79 F100/350's with a I-6. The 1973/74 240's didn't offer one.

The fan shroud does NOT bolt or attach in any way to the radiator! It bolts to the radiator (core) support.

I don't know of any fan shroud...car or truck...that attaches to the radiator...regardless of what year the vehicle is.

btw: If y'all are looking for fan shrouds for 1973/79 V8's, several are still available from Ford.

I have looked at other sites too but have never found a sample of the color. I noticed your truck color is similar mine and was wandering if yours is a stock color and if it is, what color it is?

As I told someone several days ago (could have been you, I don't recall): 1973/79 Passenger Cars also came in Medium Chestnut Metallic.

1979 F100/350's: The COLOR code is V for Medium Chestnut Metallic

1973/79 Passenger Cars: The COLOR code is 5M for Medium Chestnut Metallic.

The Ford basic part number for Medium Chestnut Metallic (cars/trucks) is 5144.

The 3 ounce tube w/brush of touch up paint: AL81-5144-B / The 6 ounce spray can: AL81-5144-H.

Just to clarify, tell me if I read this right.
1) Shroud only came with the 300 if it was ordered with xtra cooling or factory A/C, in either case prolly has a bigger (different) radiator.
2) Shroud bolts to the same support as the radiator.
3) Radiator is the complete unit and the core is only the actual cooling element in the radiator.

Who's the Dummy here. LOL

Thanks

Bill, thanks for all the info, and it was me that you gave that info to and I see that I can order it and all but I am still trying to see what it looks like and have not been able to find a sample of the color.

Thanks
