Only when warm and only after I've been running it good down the highway. I keep thinking it's my oil. The rotella synthetic. They just reformulated it again and this is the first time I've used the new formula. The previous one has always worked great in it.
Everyone here seems to think I'm barking up the wrong tree with that one though.
The oil pressure gauge gets goofy when it acts up too. Real low. All the symptoms of foaming.
I have to rebuild the oil cooler this weekend for a water leak so I guess I'll change the oil before going any farher just to see.
All good. Less than a year old harness actually. I looked at the connectors for loose sockets and bent pins today too. It all looks about new. I bought this new harness because the right rear VC connection and the ICP connections were spliced together.
You are describing classic symptoms of the IPR O-rings leaking. Perhaps water is getting in the oil causing it to foam up. Also, 5w-40 is pretty thin oil for these trucks. It's fine for winter use, but I would think that 15w-40 would be better for the warmer weather.
The 5W40 should be working fine if everything else is good in it. No matter the temperature. We haven't even gotten over 65 out yet though.
I am definitly having oil pressure problems though. I ran with a mechanical gauge on it the other day and it's up around 60 or so when I leave here cold to pick my wife up. On the way back down to around 20 on the highway and about 5-10 at idle.
Time for an oil pump next.
I'll be swapping the oil cooler to the newer style as soon as the o ring kit gets here. I have it all ready to go. I took it off my 97 and cleaned it out real good. It's amazing how much crap was inside the cooler.
So you are putting a low pressure pump in? I have one sitting here that I need to install but haven't got to it. I have a small leak up front so I order the pump and all the seals. Keep us posted on the replacement.
Yes the low pressure pump. If you are near me I can help you with it. It's no big deal really after you get the ballancer off. I just hope that's all it is on mine. I have to pull the engine sometime this spring to replace the oil pan which has a 6 inch cut across the back of it from the clutch cover. I'll check the bearings then but I really doubt they are bad. It just doesn't have that many miles on it really. I glued it shut with some gray silicone for now. I'm getting about tired of it nickle and dimeing me when I hardly have a nickle or dime to my name.
