long or short blocks
found a couple that want anywhere from $1700-2000 for longblocks, I think 1 was autozone (3yr 50000miles $1700, the other was a reman for $1900 with 12/12000 warranty).
So if there are any good links to places please advise. I am not burning any oil so I am guessing if these engines are like the 3.0 I had when overseas the weak point was the cam bearing is this true?

Check with a mechanical gauge before condemning your engine.
My theory on vehicles is that repair payments are less than car payments. Period. If you like your truck, and don't want something newer particularly, then repair or replacement of the engine is a perfectly fine option. Others may argue differently.
I can't comment with any knowledge on any re-manufacturer specifically. I would try to find a local firm that does re-builds, rather than some of the bigger, nationally advertised names. You might find a machine shop that can do your engine if you can afford the down time for them to do the work. Likely would be less expensive than a store-bought long block.
