say i wanted to add a bumper mounted backup light (50w halogen) to my 99ranger.... what is the best rout to hooking up the power? i thought of running switched power from the batt. and also hooking up to the current backup light power so it comes on in reverse, what do you think? i was questioning whether it would be to much of a load on the backup circuit.
One of them 30 amp relays from a parts store shoud do. Just connect the coil of the relay (which won't draw much current) to the back-up lights' wire (where ever convenient) and the battery to the switch input contact of the relay and the light input wire to the NO (normally open) contact . Make sure you fuse (20A) the wire from the battery close to the battery. Use at least a 12 ga. wire from the battery and for the ground. 16 ga. for the coil source would be all right.
