Adding Rear Springs?

Someone I know just put a lift kit on his truck and has the old springs that he will give me. I have no need for them but it go me thinking, can I take the bottom leaf or two off of them and add them to mine and get the same effect as an aftermarket add a leaf? Would this help raise my back end and inch or more? Or would it just make it ride worse and not raise it at all?

It has to raise it at least the thickness of the added springs. Yes it will ride a little rougher.

But aftermarket add a leafs work by arching the springs more which causes it to lift a bit. Will this happen with these?

You will have to look at them and see which springs to use and where to use them in your spring pack, to get the most arch. I doubt if you get very much more arch out of them.

If you jack your truck up by the frame, look at how much the spring arch increases over what it was sitting on the springs.

That is the most you can hope for as far as more arch is concerned.

If you add an extra leaf toward the top of the pack, it may help the spring keep that arch with the truck weight sitting on the springs.

That said, more springs, stiffer ride.
More bottom springs than top springs should make the ride worse faster.
