Transmission Service

I wanted to put some feelers out there regarding changing the tranny fluid and filter as I have heard many different opinions whether or not to do it. I have a 1997 Ford F250 HD that has roughly 194000 miles on it. I recently purchased this vehicle which runs great. However I am trying to perform all the maintenance steps as I can to keep this beauty running strong. I do not know if the transmission has ever been serviced and I have not noticed any problems with it. The fluid appears pretty clean and does not seem burnt. I am wondering whether to change it or not as I have heard people say after its done if it hasnt been done before they have ran into problems. So any advice would be appreciated.

Changing ATF Fluid in a E4OD and 4R100 transmission .: Articles Here is a link to instructions for the fluid change. From your description of the fluid it would seem to me that the fluid has been changed at some point.
However, if it was me, I would change the fluid now and every 30,000mls.
But your call.
