Is this to be expected?

2002 started a single chain timing set up, if I read that correctly. This replaced the three chain set up that was trouble prone in the early years.
Having said all that, outside of the early three chain tensioner problems, which were "fixed" somewhere in there, I have seen only two other posts with engine-wrecking timing chain problems.
Is this a vehicle you owned from day one? Or are you a second or later owner? Too long between oil changes or low oil will cause cam chain tensioners and guides to die young.
The last guy I talked to about a cam chain was talking about a Toyota 22r with 400,000 miles on it. Somewhere around 300,000 he replaced the chain. Thus I would expect any cam chain to go well beyond 112,000, and only become a concern after 200,000.
Your mileage has varied....
