Has anyone ever rebuilt and injection pump themself here? I have an old 88 250 farm truck that needs the IP rebuilt and the trucks not worth the $450 for a new one. I was thinking about doing it myself but I like to be a little better informed before I tackle these things. I've rebuilt motors, trannys, axles and about everything else on trucks so this can't be too awful difficult. Thanks in advance!!
what about the ones at pensacola diesel for 300 bucks. now im no pro on this , i do wonder how long these pumps last, and i ve seen they should be tuned in or something. i guess what im wondering is if u buy one for 300 bucks and bolt it up r u good 2 go, or does it need to be tuned in , what ever that means. i do believe these pumps have been replaced on both of my trucks.
what is it doing that makes you think it needs rebuilt?
I am not getting any fuel to the injectors. I am getting fuel to the pump but nothing past that. I have changed the fuel shut off solinoid and that didn't fix it. I have power to everything. The truck has been sitting for a while and the last time I drove it I had trouble getting it to refire when it was warm (ie. after running it and shutting it off) Just assume its gone bad.
it may be as simple as a weak lift pump.have you pressed the schraeder valve to see how much fuel comes out?how much fuel is in the tank?is the fuel filter full and does it stay full?
Remove the schrader valve core on the filter header.
Install a pressure gauge, 3 to 7 PSI while cranking the engine over.
Now remove the gauge and route the fuel into a suitable catch can, minimum of 1/3 pint in 10 seconds cranking the engine over.

I will give that a shot.... Like I said.. this thing just sits most of the time so it has become one of those "I might work on that next weekend" projects. Hate to say that but when you've got a full schedule it happens sometimes.
