Anyone happy with there 5.4L??

Count me in on loving my 5.4, I had it in my 99 and now 02. Cept for blowing plugs it's been terrific and 14 to 15 mpg is with a load in the back is great. I couldn't afford to run a V10 just so I could burn rubber at a light or pay 20 to 40 cents a gallon extra for diesel not counting the 5 grand option and increased cost of oil changes. I hope they never stop making them!

Mine is a 2003 ext cab with a long bed and the 5.4l. I have a service body on the back and the truck weighs a total of 9842 lbs. with full tank of gas, me and a helper in the cab. I pull a 8x12 enclosed trailer that is 7' tall inside and maxed out in weight. The 5.4 pulls it better then mu cummins did when I had it. At 240k miles, I have leaky valve guide seals, and the tranny is slipping, but I am happier with this then the cummins. And I am planning on pulling motor and tranny this summer for a rebuild.

When I bought my f250 v10 I drove them all and I turned down 3 5.4 f250's for the v10, the ones that I drove were dogs and I just could imagine towing with it, I don't regret buying the v10 just was afraid I wouldn't have the power, with my other trucks (dodges and chevy) they just couldn't cut it especially the dodges. That is why I went with the v10, I do hear they are good engines.

V8, V10, Diesel, they're all good motors, and everyone has their preference. I had the 5.4L in a 2004 F150 Screw, and it was a great motor in that. I abused it one time, and it performed flawlessly, little slow, but flawlessly none the less. I towed a BIG 4x4 vermeer trencher on a 6K trailer. Just for fun, I went across the scales. 14,300! GCWR! That taxed it pretty good, and the brakes, but did great. I would not be scared of a 3V 5.4L in a F250 or F350. Now, A 2V 5.4L? ehh, I'd probably pass in a 3/4, or 1 ton.

I'm another 5.4 fan. I've worked with both 2v and 3v 5.4's and 6.8's, as well as 7.3s. They all have their place, but for how I use my truck a 5.4 has me more than covered.
5.4's honestly catch a horrible rep from people who have never driven them, or more importantly, people who HAVE driven them, but never really worked one. I was skeptical as well, until I had a heavy load in my old '02.... completely changed my mind. The 3v trucks can seem very sluggish as well with the electric throttle, but like I said, really working one and getting into the power (not just racing it) will really open your eyes.

I liked to think that having 12.5k(which is the lightest horse trailer loaded that I have) would qualify as working the engine. Normally I wouldn't have done it, but I had to move 2 horses about 20 miles and it made it, but I was sweating bullits through the little hills that I had to go up and down on.
I wouldn't do it again. I really like the 5.4 in my half ton, but for my needs in a 3/4 ton on up, it just isn't up to snuff.
