looking for a donor
I have a 48 F2 and would like to get a donor vehical for the motor and drive train I would like to keep it ford but if a deal comes up I could go GM. I have a rebuilt 351w long block and a c6 tranny but nothing else, but still looking for other ways to go. What models and years would be a good choice.

Thats a good setup, it's what I plan on using.
All you really need is a new rear end. Could probably find one for about $200.
You can use other parts like a steering column and brakes off a donor... but thats a lot of donor you're not going to need left over, and maybe less than $100 in parts depending on how you shop.
I'm planning on using parts from a 74-79 F-Series, granite I'm making a 4x4, but from everything I've researched those where the golden years as far as simple yet strong parts go. After that it sorta becomes harder to mix and match stuff, like parts got more specific.
Julie; 3.00s with a c6? Seems like that wouldn't be enough, granite c6's aren't my speciality, but the 3.00s I have in my mustang behind a 4-speed toploader would be way too little for an auto trans. Everyone I know that used auto trans used much lower gears like 4.11 to get the same results as a 3.50 with a manual. Maybe I'm way off cause it's like 1:30 in the morning after a long week and the brain no longer like to work so well... lol... I have a site around here somewhere that calculates rpm/tire size/gear ratio/ transmission ratio I should find it, it's quite helpful. (And I should note I like to launch fast... so I guess my idea of what ratio to use is tuned for that... and really big tires, that too.)

Thankx for all the input I forgot to mention that I got an Explorer 4x4 rear end. I just don't know that much about drive trains to peace one together so I kinda went with what was handy @ the time. I just was offered a 79 T bird in good shape with a 351w cheap. Thinking with the little I know, a running system would be an easier way to go. Would this be a good way to go, or stick with what I got?

Well since the conversation is about donors. I bought me a donor today to use on my 56. I bought a 78 f100 with a 302 and a c6 transmission. Motor was rebuilt 40000 miles ago and the trans rebuilt 17000 miles ago. Comes with a new holley 600 and new manifold. After getting it home I fill a little guilty about using it as a donor. The truck drove like a top driving it home. I felt like I got it for desent price at 1400.00 I may try to sell off what's left over to recoup some the cost.
