Hello all, I have enjoyed reading all the wisdom and know-how on this forum as it relates to 1960s ford trucks. I am looking at a 1961 flareside being sold locally in Tucson for $1500. The Truck was originally a Fort Huachuca military base vehicle, runs when jumped, and needs rear tires. No rust according to current owner, but has pretty much sat for about ten years, being driven about once per year. I am going to go take a look at it in the next couple of days and am HOPING to get some suggestions on
1. what to look for to determine health of the truck and whether or not this is a good purchase.
2. what to do before driving home, i.e.change motor oil, transmission oil, marvel mystery oil in cylinders?
3. where the best place is to find a shop manual for this truck.
4. how to find out if the engine is original
5. any ideas on where to find a set of tires to get her home, and what size would fit?
Any and all suggestions are welcome, and if I do go with it, i'll put up pictures soon. Thanks in advance,
Robert

1)Look for rust and major body damgae that has been covered up.
2)Definately change the oil, Check all cavities with lubricant, but I would reconsider driving any major distance.
3)Ebay, Amazon, internet, or a swap meet.
4)Doesnt really matter if motor is original, but most likely is the same type thats in there.
5)Wal-Mart, Goodyear Wrangler 235/75/15. Usually around $65 each.
