yeah, i know to take what the "big boys" say about the ttb with a grain of salt. I know that if it stood up to what my grandfather put it through for 15 years, it will stand up to what I will put it through.
so I am going to check out this ttb tomorrow hopefully, and I thought of another question for you guys. My big concern is knowing what types of things to check for, like wheel bearings, hubs, etc, and how to check them. I've never really needed to check these things before, so I've just got no clue. also, I'm pretty sure that the bolt pattern will be 5x4.5, but can someone reassure me that's right? Now lastly, how hard will it be for me to convert this thing to manual hubs, assuming that by '95 or whatever he said it was that they had already switched to the automatic ones?
The bolt pattern is 5 x 5 1/2. You have all the stuff from your old ttb, so you should have enough parts to get the newer one going.
Bearings are cheap enough as well as seals. The only thing I would check is the slip joint on the passenger side. See if it wiggles side to side. If it does, it's worn and that will require a new passenger side axle. But you still have your axle in your ttb is it's any good.
and I think 5x5.5 is what I meant (same as my '82?). And unfortunatly my old ttb is one giant hunk of rust, so I don't think I'm getting much off of it. Internals may be good, but thats probably after they get cut out
so i picked up this ttb today, and its just about clean enough to eat off of. all the stickers are still there, perfect shape, just a tiny bit of surface rust on the rotors. It does have auto hubs though, which sucks. but I guess an extra $30 for warn premiums is worth it.
One question though, there is wiring harness comming out of the back of each rotor; is this for the auto hubs or ABS? If its ABS, how easy is it to ditch?
