I've got an 86 f-150 4x4 with a 351HO windsor. One of my exhaust manifolds is cracked. Can anyone tell me if a set of modern 302 mustang headers will work on this application, as they are very readily available on E-bay? Clearance is rather tight on the passenger side.
Not to hijack your thread, but I'm looking for headers for my 85 f-250 4x4 351w which is the same thing your looking for. What I've been told is you have to get headers that are made for the truck as its 4wd and the steering box rod might be a problem for clearance. I have looked up headers but none really say that they are for the truck. Does anyone have info or have headers on these trucks? I'm going to make some calls today to see if i can get any info and I'll let you know.
I built a 80 Bronco several years ago with a built 302 and a T-18 the best fitting headers that I finally ended up with were Hooker Competition series .Check them out a little pricey but the fit great.
Your best bet would most likely be a junkyard, but it's getting harder to find ones that still have vehicles over 20 years old.
Also just curious does anyone know of any RV/truck headers for these trucks? Looking for something that will not reduce the amount of torque at the lower rpm range. To me most headers seem useless as they are most effective in rpm ranges most people never use.
also a cheaper route would be something like jb weld or something like it. I've used some exhaust sealant stuff, grounded it down and painted it and it looked pretty decent. But if it's cracked bad enough, like if it comes off in two or more pieces, it's definitely hunting time.
I am also interested in headers for my 82 302 F250 with dual tanks. I was going to post my own thread, but would just like to join the band. I have looked up parts for my truck on Jegs.com, but the headers there are expensive. Like the other poster I have seen many used 80's mustang headers for sale locallly on craigslist both long and short tube. why won't they work, they go for under a $100 for the pair. I do understand having dual tank complicates things as far as rounting WTF. Anyway what would wotk better shortys or long tubes?
I currently have shorty headers on my truck, which makes it easy to use stock exaust pipes. Full length usually are a tighter fit, but you can use straight pipes, so it's a little easier to bolt up. From what I've seen some full length ones require a smaller starter and little modification to the frame. I'm curious how equal length headers would fit. I don't see why shorty mustang headers won't fit, but the full length might be too short for a truck. just my two cents
mustang headers wont fit because they will hit the truck frame. mustangs don't have frames, they are uni-body with a k member.. different kind of room then a framed truck
lol i think thats the last thing i would do is go off and cut my frame to make my truck sound better.. try bronco graveyard, they got some good deals on headers that are made to fit our trucks
