P4030 Code will not go away

(Correction P0430)
Received the code which stated I had a bad O2 sensor downstream threshold bank 2. I decided to replace the all O2 Sensor and change the plugs but after clearing the code it comes back after a few miles. I have reset the code using an OBD II and taking the NEG BAT cable off for 6 hours. I installed a new complete Magnaflow stainless system in late August 2008 from the exhaust maniford to tailpipe.

I am lost! could the catalyst convertor be bad? I do not have any leaks in the exhaust system....Puzzle......

P0430 is NOT caused by O2 sensors! The code doesn't indicate a bad sensor, it indicates the sensor is showing that the converter is not working.

You likely have a bad converter on that side.

Although I agree with your diagnosis, I am equally wondering why a 1-1/2 year old catalytic converter would be bad already?

It's a MagnaFlow...

I learned a really loooonnnnng time ago (the hard way) - just because something is new(er), doesn't mean it's good. Always assume it can be anything and follow the data.

Assuming it's not a manufacturing defect, the most common reason for premature cat failure is due to excessive unburned fuel getting dumped into it for an extended time. A misfire, vacuum leak, or a faulty O2 sensor (either of which should have previously tripped a MIL) are the more common reasons.

Just curious, how would a vacuum leak put unburned fuel into the cat. It would seem to me that a vacuum leak would LEAN the fuel.

It does, but in response the PCM richens the mixture.

I had some welding done on my exhaust system & soon after the code came on for all 4 sensors, after fooling around for days I found a blown fuse in the fuse box under the hood, that was the problem,Gigger
