Which type of rear bumper does your truck have? Ford offered two distinct types.
It also makes a difference if the truck is a Styleside or a Flareside.
Step bumpers use different brackets than non step bumpers.
If you have a step bumper, is it genuine Ford...or not?
ALL rear bumpers were optional back then. Aftermarket bumper companes also sold them...the brackets will not be the same.

i figured they had brackets.....i have a styleside truck and am looking to put a step bumper on...so my ? is where can i find new brackets...the frame had no bumpers or brackets when i bought it, and i have been unable to find any place to buy brackets for this yr truck. npd has brackets but only up to 1972, bronco grave yard has brackets but they dont say what yr they are for

Ford offered three different Step Bumpers: Plain painted argent / Diamond Plate painted argent / Chrome, but...
There are two different widths between the rear frame rails used on these trucks: 33 1/2" & 37 1/2"
The bumpers and brackets are specific to these two frame rail widths.
37 1/2" = 1973/79 F100/150 / 1973/79 F250 except as noted below / 1973/79 F350 except as noted below.
33 1/2" = 1973/77 F250 4WD's (High Boy's) / 1973/79 F350 Regular Cab's on the 140" wheelbase.
If the step bumper you have is from a 1973/79 F100/350 with 37 1/2" wide rear frame rails:
