so i was headed home last night from shooting with the gun club and i noticed my 04 was running ROUGH. when i got home i popped the hood and let her idle a bit, and it was pretty rough sounding, too.
so i drove her back up here this morning for class (35 miles) so i can take it in to the shop if i need to. figured i'd ask here first.
she ain't got much power, and when accelerating or cruising up hill, everything vibrates. it feels like there's a miss somewhere. should i take it in, or is there something else i can do? changed oil about 700 miles ago, so there's about 5700 on this set of fuel filters.
I had a similar issue where the dealership told me it was misfiring. But I had a very specific problem:
- Did not vibrate when in P or N and giving it a lot of acceleration (not engine then)
- Did not vibrate when coasting at any speed, even at 100mph (not tires/alignment then)
- Would only vibrate when giving it gas and in motion at the same time
It turns out the rear U joints had gone to hell, and a quick $100 fix made everything back to normal. Not sure if these issues are the same that you are experiencing or not.
If it's vibrating and sounding strange at idle I would suspect injector going out on you. If it's really doing it rough you should have a contribution/balance code in there.
yup yup. injector's 1 and 7 were shot. 900 bucks or so and i'll have it back tomorrow morning.
i think i may have found myself a new service department. SMALL dealership, one (old guy) diesel tech, but he pulled it in, ran diagnostics (do they ALWAYS charge 60 bucks to run diagnostics???), and got to it. was working on it before the wife got there to get me!
$60 wont get your hood open here. its $200 at my shop as well
I don't believe that. I'm loving my dealership more and more now. I really love it that they gave me there VIP discount too(of course I'm sure they do a C/B analysis and figured they would have recouped it with repeat business in less then a year).
