i know my uppipe donuts are leaking, but where do the fumes get into the cab? is there a fresh air door stuck open, iam tired of smelling it and wont have time to fix it for a week or two.
I don't have an answer to your question, but suffer from the same thing... I bought a set of up pipe gaskets and would like to know the easiest way to go about it...
i did my donut gaskets when my engine was out, and even then i snaped off all the bolts even after soaking the heck out of them, i broke the ones that go to the turbo intake manifold and then i broke an easy out trying to get the broken bolt out, i gave up and went to ford and got a new turbo manifold for 200 and all new bolts, and the thing that pissed me off is that it wasnt even leaking i just did it cause i didnt wanna have to replace them once the engine was back in.
Chicago, it will find a way into the cab no matter how tight things are. Those up pipes are in a position to send fumes in both directions side ways and then down. That's way I replaced mine when the turbo was out. If they would have leaked my wife would freak out and get sick. EMD (electrical motors division??), there is no way that is easy to replace those. Wheelie, I know what your talking about, I just did mine after pulling the turbo and it was right up there in the top ten biggest pains in the *** jobs I've ever done. I even thought of, God forbid, of buying a new truck half way through the job. I think you were very smart to tackle the job with the motor out. My ribs are bruised from laying over the motor!!
Do you have any gauges with wiring coming in from the firewall? and u might want to check the firewall under your steering colum i noticed on my firewall there is a hole in it about in inch in diameter going strait into the engine compartment. i dont know how much this will help might not hurt to check out and seal up.
thats somewhere to start. iam still looking at the freshair vent
I suffer from the exhaust smell in the cab from the leaking exhaust up pipes and its alot worse in the winter when warming up the truck. My cab is pretty much sealed, I gave it a good look over and unfortanitly my conclusion is replacing the up pipes is the only fix. I'm guessing a small amount of exhaust rises up and then is drawn in through the cowl between the hood and the windshield when the heater blower is on.
To Add, like my crank case mod, the draft rises up in traffic at a stop light right by my drivers door and with the window open I can smell it in the summer time with the window down, I'm sure your leaking up pipes are doing the same.
