I was wondering if anyone knew where to get a throttle cable for a 66 Ford w/ a V8
My truck originally had a Inline 6 in it but was swapped out a long time ago.
I think they used the same cable tho.
It's time to replace it because its pinched a bit.
I've posted this question before but I couldn't find one from the link that someone posted.
If you have one, or know where to buy one please let me know.
I've checked Napa, Oreillys, and Autozone without any luck.
Andy, Although I have not installed them I have a couple 70s pedal assemblies with the rods, that I harvested from a part out. You'll have to drill a new hole in the fire wall, but they will line up just fine.
The pedal I have is fine.
The piece that is crimped is the piece from the firewall to the carb.
It has a black covering over it until it gets to the carb. Then it just has a wire and that's the piece thats crimped.
I don't want to replace the whole pedal assembly but thanks for letting me know that they'd fit (just in case I ever have to replace them.)
Man that sucks... lol
I went to the junkyard today go get some parts off of a 64 and it had a stupid linkage....
What years exactly used the cable, so I can look around more?
Andy, Tha'ts why I mentioned the rod system of the mid 70s truck, probably get the whole thing for $5.00. I had an idea that your pedal was fine. good luck
So just a few holes drilled and it'll work?
I seen 4 or 5 at the junkyard yesterday and was gonna buy them, because I remembered what you said.. But I forgot what all was involved
The pedal works differently from what is on the truck now, but because the floor pans are the same you can make it work by drilling a hole for the pedel to go through as well as bolt holes. You'll want to measure the donor so you can make the hole correctly.
I've never seen a cable on any of the 66's I've worked on. I have linkage on mine and I thought maby you have a cable because your truck was a I6. you shold consider the linkage style because they dont have the troubles of cables which become stiff and where out more quickly. good luck
Hey,
Well I thought maybe it had a cable also because of I6.
But my other 66 has a cable for it, and it came stock w/ a a 352
I know where the linkage is out of a 64, would it pretty much go in place of the cable?
Let me know please.
I am just about 50 minutes west of you here in Beebe..
My 66 352 has the trottle cable also, there is a salvage yard i have found in judsonia that has some good parts..
Also, I noticed that you have disk brakes, did you do this yourself?
I pulled the entire front end out from under a 79, but never had the time to make the brake lines, nor find a suitable place for the proportioning valve.
Hey!
Yea, I live in Conway. lol
The disk brakes were done before I got it.
Put the valve on the drivers side of the frame, where the original one was. Thats where we placed it for my friends truck when he ran new lines for his non power brakes.
I thought I had seen these in the catalogs. I am at work right now and can't check. The 6 cylinder cable is longer than the V8 cable. Ford went to all cables in the 70's and newer cars. But, they mount differently. Maybe you can do some shopping at the junkyard for the correct length and then adapt your pedal to accept the newer cable.
