Looking at an 05 Excursion

Hey Guys,

I am looking at purchasing an 05 excursion with 134k on her. I am 6.0L ignorant and could use some tips on things to look at/for under the hood. The Excursion is in amazing condition otherwise.

Thanks

IMO the oil needs a sniff to check for fuel and look for water. The degas bottle should be clean(not covered in white chalk or filled with orange marmelade) and a smooth idle.At Idle on a warm engine open the oil filler cap and look for smoke, a little is normal a fog is not.Driving it, the boost on a slow steady WOT run should get to 25+,the tranny should shift like silk in the wind while you have your foot in it.If there is any smoke out the tailpipe and the truck is stock with a warm motor, something isn't right.Get an oasis if it is clean/reasonable and the above checks out it is a good 6.0 IMHO. I am sure others will add what I have missed.....

The Ex is really a great suv. Other things to check are the steering/suspension. See if the overload springs in the rear have been used often. Check the auto lock hubs too.
