i have a 93 idi it starts up hard like it loses prime. i have replaced to the fuel injection and lifter pump about 4 months ago i had no problems. if u plug it in its a little better but lately has been getting worse. the water in fuel light has been on for awhile but hasnt seemed to change the way it runs. my relay also clicks on and off for a minute fast. could it be the relay or the fuel filter??
i replaced my glow plugs about 7 months ago. but my relay clicks on and off for like a min and a half should it do that? or is it bad? and isnt it a good possibility that my fuel filter is bad?
If your water in fuel light is on you need a filter. When was the last time you changed it.
What brand glow plugs did you use.
How long does your plugs stay on when you first turn the key on with a cold engine.
in the morning remove the fuel filter.carefully look inside it,trying not to spill fuel, and let us know how full it is.
if your water in fuel lite is on,then you need to drain the water from the base of the filter.its a devoted compartment, you can't miss it.
if the filter is old, then id replace it like star suggests anyway.
when answering stars questions, also provide your average cold start temps.
p.s.
was there a crap load of 93f250's made,or is it just me noticing them cus i have one.i swear there's a lot of us here.probably everyone thinks the same thing when they see they're year too tho lol.
i changed filter 4 months ago. i put 8 new autolite plugs in 7 months ago and my wait to start comes on wen cold for about 7-8 seconds then it keeps clicking on and off for about a min and half even wen truck is running. when starting it after u just shut it off the wts light comes on for about 3 seconds then does the same on off thing.
Those autolite plugs maybe the problem. Not many people like them or any of the others. I would suggest using the motorcraft beru plugs that came in it stock. The number on them is ZD9 for your year truck. If you decide to pull the autolites I would read the sticky at the top of this forum page for the 87-94 trucks first. Glow plugs other than the motorcraft berus tend to swell when they die and can break off in the head and that would not be a good thing.
Personally even if the autolites are not burned out I would get them out as quick as you can affotd to. It seems like the autolites are the worst ones as far as swelling goes and causing big problems when they fail. As far as I am concerned they should not even be listed as a part for our motors.
Beru glow plugs (packaged and sold as "motorcraft") are the only plugs to use.
did ya check the fuel filter level?
did ya drain the water?- how much came out?
did the lite go out?
the clicking is normal, however not for 1-1.5 minutes.(it should do it for about 10 secs or so once started.this is your afterglow)
will many burnt out plugs cause the afterglow cycle to keep going for so long i wounder?-i didn't think so.
is this a bad relay/controller or possible poor ground causing this guys?
i would follow the instructions to test your whole GP system and THEN buy 8 motorcraft GP's no matter what phantom.-see all kinds of instructions for testing everything by Dave and others in the top sticky.--you want the "new" style sticky.
you can search for my thread, where i cover loads of these tests as well called "how long is normal to fire @ 40 cold start".lots of good stuff there too when i was going through the system for the first time.
Just paid attention to your handle. I liked the song.
Do a search on glow plugs and read the experiances that people have had with different brands, then decide how you want to spend your money.
