I have a 01 ex 4x4 with a v-10. I just put new brakes, rotors, calipers and hardware on the front end, bled them and noticed a huge wobble. I thought it was the rotors so I took them back changed them out and still the same thing. I didnt have this problem with the old set of brakes. I was thinking maybe the last owner had the brakes turned on the truck and maybe the hubs are bent or even worse the axles themselves are bent. Anyone have any suggestions to pin point which one it could be? Has anyone had this happen to them? Thanks for your help.
Not sure what was on there but I put Michelin on there. I put autozone duralast gold brake pads, claipers and hardware kit. Advance Auto rotors. Even with just the rotor on the hub and lug nuts tightend there is a wobble.
Could be what you put on there if you have problems without everything being attached.
If you look at some of the signatures you will see what is being used for front rotors and pads.
Rear is usually OEM with pads matching what is being used up front.
first off, never shop at autozone the duracrap brand is low bid and you never know what you are getting.
were the old brake pads all worn about the same amount? if NO then you probably have a sticking caliper pin and need the ford upgrade kit for the caliper...
As its happening without braking I would start looking at hub bearing assemblies, ball joints and tie rod ends as well as alignment.
I will check them out. I replaced the pins when I replaced the brakes. As far as I could tell the old brakes were worn even. Can I use a dial indicator to check the hub assemblies? Thanks for the help and getting me headed in the right direction.
Update on my problem. I had to change the HUBs both where bent. Still confused on how they were bent. When I put it back together for the fourth time it rides smooth until I apply the brake pedal. I get this vibration in the steering wheel and slight pulse in the pedal. Could it be a bent wheel, incorrect bleeding of the brakes, a broke belt in tire or even a out of balance tire?
Sounds like bad rotors if it's only when you brake, especially the steering wheel shaking bit. How are the rear rotors? Is it the ABS pulse or extreme high spots (such as rust chunks) on the rotor causing the pedal to pulsate?
No. I took them back and got some from Advance. Thought maybe since the hubs where bent maybe in did something to the rotors? I plan on taking rotors back and the pads and trying it again now that I replaced the hubs.
Nah bud they're not bent....There is a bearing inside each that goes bad and it causes the tires to bow and cause the Death Wobble as it is know around here.
