Smile Thermostat question

I have a 96 4.0 aerostar, once I reach operating temperature my thermostat fluctuates from just above cold to colder it never reaches the center of the gauge Winter or Summer. Is the thermostat easy to change. Or does anyone have any other idea?
cold in the northeast...

Thermostat question

Ease of change is relative to how you want to approach it. On the 4.0 the outlet housing the thermostat is directly behind the alternator. You can change out the thermostat without removing the alternator but the access to the three outlet cover bolts is very limited. Drain off 2 quarts of coolant beforehand and remember to pick up a new o-ring gasket with the new thermostat. There are several heat ranges available for this engine. I currently use a 195 degree thermostat and the gauge reads about the "N" in NORMAL.

Thermostat question

You will find that the Motorcraft OEM thermostat from Ford
will last longer, and maintain a more constant temperature
than after market replacements like Stant, etc. ....
