I'm sure somewhere on here there is someone having the same problem, but I figured I would start one here. I drive a 2008 F-250 4x4 KR 6.4L and tow a 34' 5th wheel RV. Took the truck in 2 weeks ago to get a noise (suspected tranny, possible pump) come to find out 2 days later, a turbo resignating down the down tube. They took the cab off and took both turbos apart. One was fine (not sure which one yet) and the second had "carbon" build up in it. I think he meant soot unless there is a bearing chewing up. It made a whirling sound, idle, rev to 1000 and as it comes down through 900, it would make the sound. Driving down the road, above 20, let off the gas and as it settles at 750 rpm, same sound. It went away as it warmed up...weird.
Anyhow, it's still under warranty for 6 more months and I've had EGR valves, radiator, turbo and the recalls. Anyone else finding any reliability problems with the 6.4L? Love my truck to death. I do run an Edge Juice w/ attitude control on level 2 when I tow and rarely on a 3. Never go higher than the 3 setting. Plans for a 4" MBRP muffler back exhaust...don't want to give up the warranty just yet. :-)
You're lucky that they are still honouring the warranty with a tuner. Hold your breath until they hand you the keys!
Some early 08's had these problems, but most later 08's were ok.
Just thought I'd share my experience with my early 08'. I run an SCT w/dpf delete I just got my truck back after the low end turbo went out. 40,000 miles.
I took the tuner off before I turned it in, didn't want to deal with that. If they looked, I'm sure they'd seen the battery disconnected. I took it once before with the EGR and no problems. Guess I got me a good service advisor.
Ive got an 08 F250 6.4 Diesel with 45000 miles. It was leaking power steering fluid, I took it in and spent $1000 on a new steering box. (Of course the warranty ran out at 3yrs. 36000 miles) Ive got two friends with the same truck that have also replaced the steering box. Just wondering how common this is throughout the USA. Seems to me a steering box shouldn't need to be replaced that soon. Wondering if there is any recall on this item?
