I am at college and have no place to plug in my 93 F-250 diesel. i was just wondering if it would be possible to use a power inverter, connected to either an external battery, or either of the two batteries under the hood, to plug in the block heater for about an hour or half hour before i need to start it? i didn't know if a battery could give enough power to run the block heater or how long a battery could last if i rigged it up. does anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance.
There is no way a power inverter (off the shelf, like at a Radio Shack or Circuit City) is going to handle the load (I understand about 2Kw) of the block heater. Also a battery would go dead quickly if you could such a thing.
Run a heavy extension cord from where Security parks their electric golf carts.
