Intercooler question

I was offered a complete intercooler setup including a turbo from a wrecked 2001 7.3. Will this turbo bolt right up to my truck? I know the spyder won't work with my 97 turbo so I'm wondering if I can just bolt the newer 2001 turbo right on my engine.

Thanks,
Chris

P.S. The engine blew when the guy was running down the highway at 3000k rpm with a superchips tuner on performance mode with a trailer loaded with a bobcat and tools

I thought

I thought that the new smaller turbos were not a direct bolt up. So maybe with this bump someone will share the knowledge.

I can actually get the whole engine for $200 but it needs a complete rebuild. I figure even if the turbos blown I can just use my turbo and a banks spyder.

jchosler, its not the turbo that you have to wory about with egts, its the pistons. pistons have a melting point, the turbo is either fried and needs new bearings or its good and dandy. for example. my house fire the took my red truck, completely welded my turbo shut LOL

UM, for $200, YES!! you can part it out and make $$ easily. if the injectors are still good you can sell them pretty easily, the hpop will work in yours, it is a heck of a steal for 200 for a whole motor

Hmmm probably a stupid question but would the injectors work in my truck? Meaning could i send them out to get turned into stage 1s while I drove on my current ones? Also how much work would it be to change out my manifolds and up pipes? Are we talking cab off here?

99-03 injectors in 94.5-97

You can swap the injectors over to your current truck. They are a direct replacment. Just make sure you also swap the IDM's because the newer injectors run better with the split-shot design thats programed into the newer IDM. Check out BeansDieselPerformance.com if you want some cheap re-manned Stage 1s. I think they are about 1500 bucks to have them remanned.

Hey guys just giving an update. I'm waiting on the mechanic now as he has an '03 6.0 in the shop with the cab off. Once he gets a new 6.0 put in he's pulling in the '01 7.3 with the blown engine that I'm getting parts off. Hell be pulling the cab and swapping in a new 7.3. He took the offer of the whole blown engine for $200 off the table as he is going to try and part it out and I don't really blame him for that. The offer for the turbo, turbo pedestal, intercooler and all pieces is still on the table for $100 so hopefully I'll be getting that in the near future and be doing a write-up on that and a tru-cool 4739 transmission cooler. I'm also gonna help the guy with the work since he's giving me suc a deal. The deal with this truck is it is my first truck that I bought 3 years ago when i was 16. It has 128k miles on it now with original engine and transmission and I want to own it forever, first using it as a daily driver, then a work truck, then restoring it. It hasn't been worked for the 3 years I've owned it and won't be for another 4 until I'm out of college. I'm hoping that these new components will help add to the longevity of the truck and then in 4 years when I start to pull a trailer and put a plow on the front for my landscape construction business it will get a BTS transmission and whatever mods are needed to make it a work beast. Sorry for the long windedness but I wanted to give you guys an update and try to show you where I'm going with my truck.

After seeing a few heat damaged turbo's I thought I would point out your pistons will be damaged first, but turbo's can also be damaged by high EGT's.

Garrett recommends 1270 as a max EGT temp.
