i have a quick question i have a 53 f250 and i an going to switch to 12 volt. i am trying to order starter solenoid. the lmc catalog have a 56 12 volt one but it have any extra pole on the top that the older 6 volt didnt have. is this still the right solenoid that i need
Yep, the second small terminal is for a 12 volts by-pass to the points (if you have them) during start up, …….with 12 volts and points you should have a ballast resistor to 6 volts to prevent point arcing/burning while running. See Julies wiring diagrams.

Beginning in 1956, Ford used the same 12V starter solenoid into the 1980's on everything, so it's available at any autoparts store.
alright thank i have some credit at lmc and it only 9 bucks so not to overpriced
thanks for the help
This may be a dumb question, but why would you order a part like that from LMC, pay for shipping, wait a week for it to show up, when you could just stop by your local, known-quality parts store and take one home today?
