I have a 1992 150 with a 351w. I recently took it swimming and had an issue with water in the distributor. I'm not new to off roading but new to the older trucks, my previous truck was a 03 ranger. I don't plan on driving through rivers but do enjoy the deep bogs and mud holes. I was wondering what i can do to water proof as much as possible under the hood to prevent stalling out in the middle of 4ft of water. A 6inch lift and 33's are planed. It has 31x10.5 stock ride height and 3.73 gears. No matter how hard I tried i could not get this thing stuck. Any tips would help.
if it's just the dist .. maybe try wrapping the seam (between the cap and base) w/ some "self fusing silicone tape" .. (Welcome to Rescue Tape! for a look see, ebay has a supplier, or try your local hardware store)
The place that we went has a huge tractor to you out if you get stuck but i tried REALLY hard and this was the only issue that I had, it even made out of the hole before it stalled, it has a stock dist on it now. I want to upgrade the entire ign system any ideas on a water proof model? and any idea where i can find a pre made snorkel and I don't have to hack up the fender and have some ugly PVC coming out the side. For a 92 with 177k on it, it is really clean.
the idea behind the snorkel is so you don't suck water in through the air intake if you get too deep, which can do major damage to your engine ..
waterproof? no .. I think you might be able to get 'water-resistant' with a few things like the tape I mentioned, using gobs of dielectric grease on all underhood connections ..
