I decided to change my look, so my first project for 2010 was to change the color of the grill to match my wheels and to install split bumpers on my truck. To make it easier and quick I purchased another grill on eBay that only needed painting per the seller. The grill was in bad shape, so after welding new metal in the lower halfs on the headlight buckets I decided to go ahead and weld all the seams in the grill to acheive that smooth look. Then I located some NOS bumpers that I was able to adapt without much trouble. I fabricated some brackets for the bumpers and license plate in less time than it took to repair the my eBay prize. I made a new album with more photos titled front end update 2010 if interested.
It is very subtile, but very well done and it adds to the overall look of the truck. Seems like a lot of customizing ideas can detract from the overall look of the truck but this is perfect, imo!
good job, now, show me what exactly you had to weld up? have any pictures after you welded it? Id like a better idea of what your talking about in that area, besides welding the light buckets to the main part of the grill, I get that part. What else did you have to weld?
Looks good...I have always been partial to yellow. The only change I would make is to recess the license plate just to give it that finished look. Looking at the caliber of work that you have done already makes me think that this has already been considered, if not planned though. Thanks for sharing the pics...
I like the look of it!! Nice job!!! What color is that yellow? I plan on mine to be yellow.

The color is Chrome Yellow from a late model ford mustang ect.

I too like changes that dont take away from what the factory offered, just something that makes you look twice. below is a picture of what I received as a grill that just needed paint per the seller. there are a few more in my gallery.
Here you can see the new metal welded in, after going this far I decided to weld all the seams solid.

As far as yellow I'm OK with it and the interior is to darn nice to change the color of the truck to something else right now... maybe in the future. I have made several repairs and spotted in the paint as needed but at some point i'll give it a complete paint job but thats sometime down the road. I drive this most every day and dont want it off the road for longer than a week or so. Thanks for the idea on the license plate, I like it and will give it some thought and give you the credit if I do it. My next wish is to find some kind of tail lights that can be frenched into the rear fenders.

Thanks for the positive comments
Nice! what was the donor of the bumpers? There are a lot of taillights being repro'd in LED that you could use. I used 94-99 Caddy in my panel (see gallery) Which would work well in pickup fenders, or the 89-93 Caddy would also work. Pleas note that rather than buying the chrome trim from the LED light manufacturer or dealer for $$$$ I found a perfect set of OEMs on car-parts.com for 15.00 each for the entire assemblies!
rdemilt-where did you get the door hinge pins and bushings? I bought oversized pins that I have to drill bigger holes in my hinges to fit them. I was hoping not to have to drill them. Oh yes, I like the new look, but the old look was also good too! I too bought a grill off of Ebay; it was in great shape and worthy of chrome plating-too bad I don't have that kind of $.
