Brake line question

I havent been working on my brakes in awhile but not thinking anything about it i was looking at the brake lines coming out of the master cylinder and saw the the front part had 2 lines coming out, 1 to the valve and another through the firewall? i didnt think this was normal? could this be causing me problems? The pic is kind of hard to see but if you look you can.

It goes to a hydraulic trailer brake controller mounted under the dash, it taps into your master cylinder and senses the amount of brake pressure applied.
