Can you put dual wheels on a f-350 srw rear end? I plan on putting a flatbed on the truck and i want to make it a dually. I plan on swapping in a dually front end to match it but am wondering if I can get away with running my stick rear? I know its a sterling 10.5 or 10.25 with long wheel studs like a dually rear end. thanx for your help
To be more specific, the problem isn't the axle...it's your frame. Dual wheels will not fit between the springs. Dual rear wheel chassis cabs use a narrower frame with a standard width axle. Dual rear wheel pickups use a wider axle. Since you have a pickup frame, you need a wide axle for a "Dually" pickup.
There ARE spacers that let you run dual wheels on your current axle. However, these are for looks only.

Not for looks. I know of several people that have run dual wheel adapters for years hauling 6-8 place horse trailers without one issue. After all, ford uses a adapter them selves in the front

Yes, they DO use a spacer on the front. This is to make up for the 10 inches of backspacing on the front wheel. The spacer isn't the source of the weakness. It's the bearings. You wanna keep the tire centered over the wheel bearings. The flange on the rear hub is centered over the rear wheel bearings. If you mount dual wheels directly to the flange, you have a 50/50 split and the bearings aren't side loaded. Now, if you added a spacer to the rear, the load is moved several inches off of the hub. This puts an EXTREME side load on the bearings. With a moderate load, the axle will still hold up fairly well. However, you CANNOT load your axle to maximum capacity without damage. Point is, if you want duals because you think you can carry more weight, DON'T. You can carry more weight with singles.
So I think I need to find myself a set of dually pickup axles. Thanks for all the help. Anyone near metrowest area boston have a decent set? I want 4.10 gears and limited slip or better would be nice. If anyone has a set within a couple hours drive I'd like to buy them off of you. Thanks again for the help. One other question can I put F-450 or what they called them back then F-Superduty front springs in to replace mine? With the diesel and a heavy plow on the front I want the stiffer springs. And no I dont care if the ride is rougher I have a F-Superduty and I dont mind its ride. Thanks if anyone knows.
