Sounds like the weep hole on your fuel pump. The banjo bolt on the back of the pump is 1 1/4". Is your truck a cali model or a 49 stater? If it is a cali model you have to go under the turbo, but if it's a 49 stater you can get it with a wrench. I think a craftsman wrench has about the right angle but you can always heat and bend a wrench if you have to. Hope this helps.
my truck is 49 stater im in north carolina. where is the weep hole on the pump.
i cant see any fuel leaking. it seems to be coming from area of the 11/4 nut.
the fuel builds up slowly. so to tighten the bolt wont help. so i need to replace
the pump? thanks alot steve n.carolina f250 ps
You can try to tighten the banjo bolt, it may help. The weep hole is right on the bottom of the pump, I don't think that you can see it unless you take it off the truck, but you may be able to use a mirror to see it. I don't remember if it is on the front or rear side of the pump though, someone else might be able to help with that. I can try to look tomorrow to see where the weep hole is. How many miles do you have on your truck? Do you know what your fuel pressure is?
You may be getting to the point to need a new pump. My 350 has 156k and I changed it, not because it leaked, but because I was replacing the rubber lines and figured I should do the fuel pump while I was at it. Just beware of the lifter when you take the pump out, you don't want it falling into the engine.
You may have already tackled this, but here are some pictures. Happened to have one on the shelf at work. Might help someone in the future.
I just went through this yesterday, mine was leaking around the nut. I snugged it up a 1/4 turn and its not leaking now. A small inspection mirror works great in there.
ok i can turn the engine over by hand. my first pump change. still learning
how will i know when the tappet is all the way up when i pull the pump out.
thanx guys for the info
If you take off the 2 bolts that hold the pump down, the pump should lift up when the lobe comes up. Just take your time and be careful, you don't want to lose the lifter in the engine. Good luck.
and check fit the banjo bolt in the new pump before you install it. sometimes those "new" pumps have dinged threads which gall against the steel threads of the banjo bolt so that while youre already cussing about the tight working conditions under the turbo, this will surely will make you throw a 1-1/4" wrench across the garage.
