? For the Bonus Built Engine Swappers

It just occurred to me today that it might be necessary to remove the OE engine mount horseshoes on the frame when I swap the 351W into my F-2. Anybody found that to be true or are they far enough forward to not be in the way? I don't suppose that it really matters either way, but I'm curious. It seems to me that they would help keep the frame rails in fore/aft alignment and it might be better structurally for the frame to leave them in if possible.

They are far enough forward that they're not an issue.

If you were doing IFS they would be in the way but as Merc said with straight axle they should be OK. (ugly though)

I removed them on my install. I swapped in a 500ci Caddy. On the big Caddy engine the oil pump/oil filter housing bolts on the outside of the block on the right front and it was right in the way of the original engine mounts (the oil filter would hit).

I think with the 351W engine you should be ok.

Thanks, guys. I guess I'll take a wait and see until I get ready to change the engine. There's still a flatmotor parked in there at the moment and it's just a little hard to visualize how the 351 will sit in there with it in place.

I'm pretty sure you will want to remove them. They were in the way when I started mounting my 302. I don't have a finished installation picture but this is about where I want my engine...

I found some early pics of mine back in the rough mock-up stage. I forgot how big those original brackets were...you might have fitment issues after all.

In this pic you can see the oil filter interference issue (and yes that ugly air pump bracketry is long gone)

In this pic you can see the fuel pump might have some issues as well (I eliminate the fuel pump, fabbed a block off plate and am using an electric pump in preperation for my fuel injection)
