Which Transmission

My son has a 1988 F250 2wd standard cab and 8'box. He has a 6 cylinder engine and standard transmission. His transmission is going out and I'm trying to find a rebuilt one to put in his truck. He has a hydraulic clutch. The transmission and bellhousing are all one piece.

The transmission shop says that the transmission could be one of several. There are no identifying numbers on the transmission eventhough the tranny shop says there ought to be.

Do any of you know how I can figure out which tranmission to order?

My son is a broke college student. He will be driving the truck up here over spring break and we hope to swap out the old one and install a new one.

Please help.

Thanks

Find another trans shop. Probably the ZF. Pics here. The castings have a different look to them between this and the Mazda box, the only other integral bell 5 speed OD installed behind the 6. In an F250, the heavier ZF would have been the flavor. Pics, info:

I feel like I haven't done enough, but that's all I got unless I could find that the trans shop was close by and I'd go burn them out for you.
