Sounds like the internal seals have gotten old, dry, and hard, and don't seal properly when cold.

After the transmission fluid warms up, the seals soften somewhat and seal better, then the trans seems to shift peoperly. Is the fluid level is up to snuff?

What does the fluid look like, muddy, burned smell, red?
It's possible a fluid change and torque converter drain could help.

More than likely, it's due for an overhaul

i changed the filter and fluid twice, it still looks dirty. i'll have to check and see if i have a drain plug on the tourque converter i know some do and some don't and try draining it.

An old trick is to put a couple of ounces of dot 3 brake fluid in.
Did that to a c6 years ago and it went annother 75000 miles.
You have nothing to loose.
