the a column of my truck is damaged. Now I search a new one. From which year did they fit? I need not only the outer one, i also need the inner one. Where could I find something like that? I am now two wochen in Houston, it would be fantastically to find one in this area.
If you are talking about the steering column, note that the shaft down the center is part of the steering box mechanism. If you need the shaft, you will need to get the steering box as well. Any Bonus built people in the Houston area able to help out our German brother?
We call that the A post for the structural interior portion that supports the door hinges, and the driver's side cowl panel skin for the outside sheet metal.
If you can't find someone with a good replacement section, the outside skin would not be difficult to reproduce a replacement panel for it. I have never seen the interior post on a bonus built, but I suspect it too could be formed by hand if need be. Very little of the sheetmetal parts on your truck were of a complex shape. As I recall, there has been a few topics on this forum where people have made their own replacements.
You will probably have to buy a whole cab from someone and have them cut it out. If you can find a cab in Houston - which shouldn't be too hard, I would think it could be shipped or you could "check it" for the flight home. Cabs are not that expensive right now.
Please do you Flight Attendant a favor on the trip home. Do not try and bring it on board to fit it in the overhead bin - tee hee. (hey, I've seen it tried!)
Ok, so i have to look for a Cab an cut out this part. Shipping is no problem because we like to buy 2 or 4 cars in USA. So we sent a complete container to germany
"A-pillar" is the most common term here. Is it just the bottom part, below the lower door hinge, that is bad? There are patch panels for that area, but not for the upper part you have circled. The door post is a common place for bad rust.
I'm not sure if your damage is worse than it looks, but from what I see outlined in your photo, it appears to be minor damage that can easily be repaired. The dent in the cab side is typical damage caused by contact with the hinge mirror mount, when the door check strap is broken or missing allowing the door to swing open too wide. So unless I'm missing something, that is nothing requiring major surgery, or parts from another cab.
Where's Ilyad when you need him? depending on condition that truck he cut the panel sides off of should yield an A pillar and possibly even the outer skin.
