82 f150 ignition question

Hey guys. So back in the fall I bought an 82 f150, shortbed stepside, 4x4, 4speed, and the thing came without any keys. I was in a bind and had to move the truck quick so I drilled out the ignition and now use a screw driver! Anyways, I found an old ignition from a later model f150 (think it's from an 87-90ish). I was wondering if this ignition could work on my 82, an i so, how to I remove the old one now that I have pretty much destroyed it totally!

There is a pin that you push to release it. Some of the trucks have a access hole that you put a round punch in after you turn the key to run, and push in and it releases the tumbler. Some of the others require the steering wheel to be removed to get at the pin. If you do not want to remove the steering wheel, just take a screwdriver and a hammer and break off the chrome piece, and then you can get back up in there and push the pin to release the tumbler.

The parts stores have these pretty cheap with new keys if you want to just buy a new one.

Thanks! I'll probably have to remove the wheel as the whole ignition is destroyed, pretty sure i remember some little pins falling out as the drill pressed on. Can you get new door locks at the parts store as well?

Not sure about the door locks, I just carry two keys. You can probably take them out and get them matched to your new key by a locksmith. I don't know how much they would charge, but if you took them the locks I would think it wouldn't be too bad.

That might work too, I am hoping to get this truck into a buddies garage sometime this week or next and finish it. All I have left is the pinion seal, a front U joint, flush and fill the transfer case and transmission, weld in some new floors and cab corners, put in the ignition and tune the motor up!
