so i thought i had my trailer figured out...not quite wired conventionally but stuff was working. stuff was working when i tested friday and stuff was working when we hitched up today. important stuff quit working partway there...like running lights and brakes. i was already towing with my dad's expedition (not my favorite tow vehicle anymore) since my truck's brakes are questionable at the moment. the running lights were not such a big deal since it was sunny but annoying nonetheless since i like driving with my lights on when i have the horses. the brakes however...that was a HUGE deal. the expedition almost can't stop the loaded trailer at 6k lbs. that was very long 100-mile drive. i am so dang frustrated with this trailer...i am leaning towards just giving it to my local trailer shop and getting the wiring redone. i know the brakes on the trailer work...i saw and heard them when we checked on friday with the manual override on a good brake controller (my tekonsha p3 apparently shorted out- again!).
shame i don't enjoy messing with the trailer like i do the truck...i just like it to work when i want it!
Sometimes it's just better to take it in and have your local shop just re-do (check) everything, especially if you're not comfortable doing it. Once done you're good to go and if any issues crop up you have a place to take it back to.
Stupid question but, was you father truck wired for tailer brakes? My mother has one an 03. It has a 7 way plug built into the bumper. The only thing was the break conter was an option. No know this I haul my father car trailer with it and almost hit a car on the firdt dtop. Found out was 7 way wired with out a brake controller.
I think that since you've been having ongoing issues w/ this horse trailer & the (now) three different vehicles you tow it with you need to take it to a RELIABLE trailer shop. Have it checked out throughly and get an estimate for rewiring the entire trailer w/ a STANDARD 7-pin trailer connector. If reasonable just get it done once and for all on the trailer side. Then you 'should' be able to tow it with any vehicle w/ 7-pin vehicle connector w/ trailer brakes. Wish you lived closer, I'd give you a hand, I know this has been a real struggle for you this past year. How's the Ford w/ the 2 new batteries? Saw you had a prob w/ starter selenoid again.

"should" right...lol...i think my vehicles just like keeping me on my toes. i will call this week...hopefully getting my truck's brake issues resolved as well. aside from that she is running great now, she really likes having new batteries and starter. we made a hay run this morning, so i got to play in 4wd
good luck to you i just can't excited about messing with the trailer though...one of the few things i'm happier to pay someone else to do for me!
It easy! If you where closer to me I would do it. I have to do it to my landscaping trailer. well a stump unwired it for me. Opps! LOL. They make kit over the internet for it. I will look for what you will need in a few! Can you weld?
